Creative Director Walter Chiapponi Leaves Blumarine

Creative Director Walter Chiapponi announced that he is leaving his position at Blumarine after presenting his first collection at Milan Fashion Week last month.

Creative Director turmoil continues into 2024 and shows no signs of slowing down. Chiapponi became the latest name to leave Blumarine after just one season. His unexpected departure was announced in a statement this morning. Marco Marchi, the sole director of Blumarine’s parent company, Eccellenze Italiane Holding, thanked Chiapponi for his short-term assignment but kept the details confidential. “This experience will remain a special moment in Blumarine history. I am grateful to Walter Chiapponi for bringing so much of himself to this collection. This has been an extraordinary adventure. I wish Walter the best for the rest of his journey,” Marchi said.

Speaking about his departure, Chiapponi said: “For me, it was like a return to the future, where I focused all my love and creative passion. For this experience, I would like to thank, first of all, Marco Marchi, who made it possible, but I also thank all the people who did not allow me to express myself. I specifically refer to people whom I love and who are no longer with us but still evoke strong emotions in me and inspire my emotions and my journey. “Now, I want to take a break from the fashion world to focus on international charity work, then return to the catwalk in due time to focus on new initiatives and projects.”

Chiapponi was appointed as Blumarine’s Creative Director in November 2023 and presented the 2024 Autumn/Winter collection at Milan Fashion Week with romantic and feminine images. Appointed as host following Nicola Brognano’s four-year tenure, Chiapponi took the position based on his senior experience at Tod’s. His first collection shifted away from Brognano’s popular Y2K aesthetic towards a more relaxed look that honored Molinari’s original vision.

The exact reason for his departure has not yet been revealed. However, Chiapponi is known to have publicly stated that he was struggling with the sudden death of his nephew last year.
