Does Love Have a Season?

Oscillations, coincidences, transformations and tangents between the mind and the heart… We are together for the ELLE Love shoot with Dilan Çiçek Deniz and Cem Yiğit Üzümoğlu, the actors of the movie Aşk Mevsimi, which raises different questions about love in our minds in a youth love center born in Bozcaada.

ELLE: Season of Love was released, what kind of a movie was it, how was the shooting in Bozcaada?

Dilan Çiçek Deniz: It was a sweet, naive love movie that really touched our hearts. Bozcaada and the people living there were also very special. I can say that the attention and love we receive motivates me even more.

Cem Yiğit Üzümoğlu: I think it was an enjoyable, entertaining and very sincere movie. As Dilan said, the shooting in Bozcaada went very well, I wish we could shoot there all the time… Murat Şeker also integrated the film with the island and produced a very nice result. We had a pretty good set thanks to his experience and ability to manage the set.

ELLE: Can you tell us about your characters Şirin and Ali Yaman? What are their stories, emotions, transformations like?

Cem Yiğit Üzümoğlu: I play the character of Ali Yaman in the movie. In the movie, we see Ali Yaman’s transformation over the years, so instead of saying this and that, let me briefly summarize where he came from. While Ali Yaman was very extroverted, fun and had the courage and madness to do anything for his love in his youth, as the years passed, he took on a character that was more settled, knew what to do in life, matured and moved away from selfishness.

Dilan Çiçek Deniz: A cute, idealistic painter. A character who forgot to stop and breathe while chasing his dreams. He is more rational than Ali Yaman, but like every growing person, he feels some shortcomings in his life and begins to hear the voice of his heart.

ELLE: Ali Yaman is a man who resists and acts as he feels in order not to lose the child inside him. What is your perspective on life as Cem Yiğit? Do you make your decisions based on generally accepted truths or instinctive impulses?

Cem Yiğit Üzümoğlu: I have a lot in common with Ali Yaman. But like him, I have grown and changed over the years. Now I try to make decisions by weighing, thinking and foreseeing more.

ELLE: A young woman who makes choices with her mind, not with her cute feelings. What would Dilan do and how would he act if he were in his place?

Dilan Çiçek Deniz: There were many places where I connected with myself, especially with this character. As a young woman who started this profession early, there were times when I prioritized my career. I would probably act exactly like him.

“In my opinion, when you don’t get together, it becomes love, and when you get together, it becomes a relationship.”
– Dilan Çiçek Deniz

ELLE: Do you remember your first childhood or teenage love? Why do you think we cannot preserve that purity and unconditionality in the relationships we experience in our later years?

Cem Yiğit Üzümoğlu: I remember. I think I still protect it to some extent. Isn’t that what love is? It burns you, it makes you a child, you can’t feel cold, you can’t sleep, you can’t be without it. I still feel these things. Of course, the relationship and the way I live life have changed, but I think I haven’t lost much of the unconditionality you mentioned.

Dilan Çiçek Deniz: Yes, I remember too. But I think we cannot maintain that pure state because we are growing; We have more things to think about.

ELLE: Is not being able to meet or reach something that makes love eternal? Is it possible for love to remain love for a lifetime when we meet?

Dilan Çiçek Deniz:In my opinion, when we don’t meet, it becomes love, and when we meet, it becomes a relationship.

Cem Yiğit Üzümoğlu: I think all of these negativities are things that nourish love up to a certain point. But they are dangerous enough to bring about the end of love. Unknown balance is best.

ELLE: Have you had any fate-changing moments in your own life that make you look back and wish you had said yes?

Cem Yiğit Üzümoğlu:There were many things I wish I had said no to, rather than things I wish I had said yes to.

Dilan Çiçek Deniz: I have never had a moment where I wish I had said yes, but I have had moments where my life could have gone in other directions if I had said yes; I can say that I am quite happy with all the choices I have made so far.

“The power of love and affection has a huge place in my life.”
– Cem Yiğit Üzümoğlu

ELLE: There is a question on the movie poster: Who is the love of your life or your life partner? How would you answer?

Dilan Çiçek Deniz:My partner!

Cem Yiğit Üzümoğlu:Love of my life!

ELLE: Does love change you? What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done for love?

Dilan Çiçek Deniz: Being in love and experiencing these feelings is crazy in itself. Love can bring its own complications. It can make you wildly happy or devastatingly sad. Chaos!

ELLE: Do love and its power play an important role in your life? Did this movie change your perspective on life and love?

Cem Yiğit Üzümoğlu: Yes, the power of love and affection has a huge place in my life. But this movie didn’t completely change my perspective. That’s not its purpose anyway. It’s more like a sad nostalgia that we can look back on and sigh at, rather than a teaching from which we can learn.

ELLE: Movies are being released one after the other in the cinema industry, which is one of the hardest hit by the pandemic. What is the joy of watching a movie in the cinema and if you could say one sentence to the audience to get into your movie, what would it be?

Dilan Çiçek Deniz: Cinema is very important for many reasons. Movies are made to be watched on that scale. Everything, sound, production design, cinematography; They are all designed to be watched in that environment. A movie may not have the same impact when watched on television. Also, as a species, we just can’t focus anymore. The cinema is one of the few places on the planet where you are not looking at your phone or distracted by another screen. You focus entirely on the movie you’re watching, and you appreciate it that much more because of it.

Cem Yiğit Üzümoğlu: There is nothing more beautiful than love. I’m sure everyone will find a piece of themselves in this movie.

ELLE: Oscar Wilde said, “Love is a mutual misunderstanding”; Goethe said, “Love is nothing but a waste of time.” What is the definition of love for you?

Cem Yiğit Üzümoğlu:I can’t speak poetically about very complex things like love, so I say whatever our elders said is true.

Dilan Çiçek Deniz:Love is chaos!
