How Should Sunscreen Be Used in Winter?

SYORELL brand expert dermatologist Nurdan Seda Kutlu Haytoğlu states that especially those who love winter sports should pay more attention to the use of sunscreen and gives information about the safest sun protection.

Pointing out that it is vital to use sunscreen regardless of summer or winter, SYORELL brand expert dermatologist Nurdan Seda Kutlu Haytoğlu points out that your skin may be drier and more sensitive in cold weather.

SUN PROTECTION SHOULD BE USED IN ALL FOUR SEASONS

UVB rays, which are often associated with sunburns, decrease in winter but still pose a serious risk, especially at higher altitudes where the air layer is thinner. Moreover, in a snowy environment, the reflection of rays increases by up to 80 percent. In other words, while UVB rays, which decrease in winter, increase again at higher altitudes, the risk increases with the stronger reflection of the rays due to snow. Therefore, the decreasing UVB effect in winter is not valid at high altitudes and in snowy environments. Saying that this is the reason why sunburns occur in winter, Haytoğlu continues: “In addition, UVA rays, which are associated with premature skin aging and skin cancer, easily pass through clouds and reach the earth at the same intensity throughout the year. Since it can even pass through windows, it poses a risk even in interiors and cars. For this reason, sunscreen with at least 30 SPF should be continued throughout all four seasons to prevent premature skin aging and skin cancer. “The eye area and lips, which can be easily damaged due to their relatively thin skin, should never be neglected.”

THE SAFEEST AND MOST COMFORTABLE FILTER IN SUNSCREEN: NEW MicNo® FORM ZINC OXIDE MINERAL UV FILTER

Two types of filters stand out in sun protection: chemical and mineral. Mineral filters are preferred for babies, pregnant women, sensitive and blemish-prone skin due to their reliability and wide protection spectrum. SYORELL brand expert dermatologist Nurdan Seda Kutlu Haytoğlu talks about a newly developed form of mineral filters and adds: “MicNo® form Zinc Oxide mineral UV filter is a new technology used in sun protection and awarded with the European Union innovation award. It is as transparent as the nano form and as safe as the classical zinc oxide form. MicNo® form Zinc Oxide, which has a structure that does not penetrate under the skin, does not leave whiteness on the skin and creates an invisible shield. In this way, UV rays; It acts as a physical barrier and reflects light by simply sitting on the skin surface, without entering into a chemical reaction as in chemical filters. Therefore, MicNo® form Zinc Oxide mineral filters offer much safer and healthier protection for all skin types.”
